Making Fathers’ Day Memorable

Making Fathers' Day Memorable :: Making Fathers’ Day Memorable ::

Dads deserve to be king for a day! There’s such a unique connection between fathers and their children and a day set aside to honor him is the perfect opportunity to build family memories!

There’s no shortage of quick gift options out there – coffee house gift cards, personalized golf club sleeves, how ’bout a tie!?  haha

The most important thing to remember is helping children to impact their daddy’s heart when honoring him.

Breakfast in bed!

Always an option for brave mommies. I was not one of those mommies. Just being real. At least not until mine reached the age of 8-10 years old.

Coupon book!

Total favorite in our home. A go to gift for our children and I was always amazed how creative they could be creating the coupons! They really knew exactly what would make us happy!  And they were always amazed at how giddy we’d be cashing those coupons in!

Making Fathers' Day Memorable

 Homemade gift!

There are so many possibilities. A stroll through a craft store is sure to provide inspiration. For years this little box has held my husband’s pocket knife and various other items he wants to keep tucked away from my “tidying up” whims.  It’s a paper mach box we decorated for him for Father’s Day so long ago and the kids and I had fun working together on it! The boxes are available at Joann in different shapes. And if you really wanted to make him a cadillac version – take a look at this one they have! Nice… huh?

Making Fathers' Day Memorable Anyhow… we loved going camping when our children were small. It was such an adventure and it was the only opportunity we had to get away for fun. The kids and I painted the box with acrylic paint and shopped for fun 3D stickers about camping and coffee… and personalizing something to suit daddy’s skills and interest… that’s where the memory making becomes precious.

Favorite meal!

The way to a dad’s heart is through his stomach… well something like that. And probably true in most cases. Am I right?

Movie and pop corn!

Does dad like pop corn?? Maybe a time to slow down and pile on the couch together and watch a movie is just the thing that would mean the most to him! And that’s what it’s all about.

Volunteer together!

If dad’s not too tired from his responsibilities, maybe he’d want to volunteer to do something in the community as a family! One of our most memorable Thanksgivings was one during which we volunteered to feed people a Thanksgiving meal through a shelter. However it was not IN the shelter – it was actually outside. It was freezing. It was a long day… and my point is it made an impact and made memories. It was a valuable time we had as a family doing something that mattered.

Story time!

Set some time aside just for dad to share a story or two. He takes the spotlight and shares some memories of events in his childhood – sharing all the details and all that he learned!

Game Night!

Try a new game as a family maybe?  We love trying new games but we have our favorites as well. If it’s age appropriate, having fun is all that matters.

We love to play dice, or Nerts!

(It’s fast paced card game… we play as teams of two but you can also play as individuals.)

How are you planning to celebrate and honor dad this year? We’d love to hear your ideas and thoughts!!!
