October 31st, So when I was asked to participate in a in a fun Halloween party, I jumped at the chance. With my list in hand I headed straight to Walmart to shop for my supplies. Did you know they carry everything you need for a successful #spookysnacks party ?
I created fun and delicious Owl Cupcakes with Fanta and OREO. I loved this because you can easily re-create what i did right in your own home.
Owl Cupcakes are very easy and a little unexpected with the addition of Orange Fanta Soda in the cupcakes. It gives it that yummy flavor that everyone will asking about. I know I should not confess this but I just love when people can’t figure out what that secret ingredient is.
Fun Owl Cupcakes w/ Fanta and OREO Recipe
Cupcake Recipe
1 3/4 C Flour
1 C Sugar
1 C Cocoa
1 1/2 TSP Baking Soda
1 1/2 TSP Baking Powder
1 TSP Salt
2 Eggs, room temp
1/2 C Canola Oil
1 C Fanta Orange Soda, more if needed
Owl Cupcake Directions:
Place paper liners in the cupcake tins. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Sift the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
In a another bowl beat the eggs, Fanta soda, & oil.
Beat together until fully mixed.
Beat for 3 minutes on medium.
You want the batter kind of thick.
Scoop batter into cupcake lined cups until 2/3rds filled.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
Take out of the cupcake pan placing on a wire rack until completely cooled.
Frosting Ingredients:
1 C unsalted butter, room temp
3/4 C cocoa powder
3 C powder sugar
3/4 C Orange Fanta Soda
Frosting Directions:
Beat the softened butter on its own until smooth.
Add cocoa and powder sugar alternately with Fanta Orange soda into the creamed butter until it becomes a smooth and thick texture.
If the frosting is too thick, add more Fanta soda, if too thin, add more powder sugar. Note: Your not looking for orange frosting but dark brown!
Frost cupcakes. Leaving the frosting a bit uneven helps with placement of the eyes.
This is a visual recipe so refer to the picture of the cupcakes for assembly.
Cut cookie with the Fudge striped cookies strip side down.
Lay out the candy corn on the fudge side of the cookie.
Put frosting on the back of candy corn and secure to cookie.-
For the Owl eyes, separate two OREO cookies per cupcake. Keep as much filling on the half of the OREO cookie as possible.
I sort of ate the side I didn’t use for eyes. Shh! Our secret 🙂
Apply a small amount of the icing to the back of the each eye candy and place it on the cupcake.
Refer to the picture of the completed cupcakes for the correct position of the eyes.
Apply a small dot of frosting to the candy for the nose and place in center of eyes.
Allow cupcake to set up before moving to plates.
