Iron Skillet Blueberry Cobbler

I admit it I love Blueberry and especially Blueberry Cobbler. To mean Cobbler means homemade sweetness that families like mine love. To add to the beauty of this recipe it is cooked in our timeless yet beautiful Cast Iron Skillet.

Iron Skillet Cooking is making a come back they say but I don’t believe it ever went out of style. My family like many others treasure our Cast Iron. We happen to own a wide arrange of pots and pans and even 2 Cauldron’s also known as A Big Black Pot.

Maybe one of the reasons we have such a love affair with our Cast Iron is it’s rich history. Check out the facts I found according to Holiday Cooked.comΒ  “The original cooking pots generally had three legs because they were designed to be used over an open fire. Cooking in the home was done in the hearth or fireplace. Stoves with tops for cooking did not come into common usage until the 1700s. This allowed tremendous advancement in cookware, especially cast iron cooking when pots and pans began to be made in mass quantities.”

“By 1776 Adam Smith, in his book, The Wealth of Nations, could note that the actual wealth of the nation was not its gold but in its manufacture of pots and pans. Cast iron cookware was highly valued in the 18th century. George Washington’s mother thought so much of her cookware she made special note to bequeath her cast iron in her will. In their expedition to the Louisiana territory in 1804, Lewis and Clark indicated that their cast iron Dutch oven was one of their most important pieces of equipment.”

When a item we use lasts all those years. That means history and practicality to me and I hope it does you. While others keep replacing their pans mine just keep getting better πŸ™‚

Now on to our Iron Skillet Blueberry Cobbler. I hope you love it as much as I do.

1 stick butter
1 egg lightly beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 quarts blueberries
4 ounces cream cheese cut in small pieces
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt butter in your skillet.
In a small bowl, mix together the egg, milk, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Pour directly over the butter in the skillet, but do not stir.
Add the blueberries.
Sprinkle cream cheese pieces over blueberries.
Place in preheated oven and bake 45 minutes, or until top is golden brown and edges are bubbling.
Serve with ice cream, Whipped Cream or I love it just by itself with a cup of steaming coffee.
Enjoy!

This looks so good! I’m not usually a fan of blueberries but I just may make an exception! Though I can totally see how the recipe could be created with other fruits like strawberries.
