Memorial Day – Sharing Our Legacy

The word {memorial} points to legacy. Heritage. Love. Memories. Time.

May 26, 2014 will be a day designed to be used in preserving the memory of a person {persons}.  Of course it’s a time to  honor to those who’ve served our country and were lost to us in their sacrifice of serving.

Memorial Day

 But, many people also observe it as a day to memorialize anyone who has passed away.  This picture (above) is my grandfather. I never knew him but I have the few memories and facts handed down to me from my parents and I take pride in knowing he was a good man.

As in any special day, the depth of meaning and the extent that the treasure is valued is solely based on the heart celebrating.

(That’s you & I and we can make the day as meaningful as we want!)

Memorial Day

{Again, my grandfather with his lovely bride from Ireland.}

 The legacy of our loved ones is by definition, anything handed down from the past.

Our society is ever surging forward; with the advancement of technology we are able to accomplish more – the result is often a calendar of tasks that can make our heads whirl.  It is not characteristic to pause, referencing the past.  With tender care we can pull on a legacy – escort it to our present – and rehearse that connection in our own way.

Memorial Day

{my maternal grandmother – I love her smile!}

When those we share a connection with have passed away, it’s part of our heritage to enjoy their memory!  Entrusting that memory, whether in the form of stories – photographs – or lineage – with our children and friends is an honor to them as well.

Memorial Day

{I can feel the love in my grandparents’ gazes!}

I look forward to setting aside the clamor of all I need to get to and spending time with the memories of my loved ones. It really is a holiday of the heart!

Memorial Day

{my maternal grandparents were hard working farmers}

It’s a paradox actually.

It’s a paradox that we can do something so very good for our own souls with such simplicity.  My grandmother (above) hugged me so tight sometimes I thought I’d stop breathing if she didn’t cut it short!  And every single time I think of that or share it with someone it makes me so happy – and I’m connected with that legacy once again.  It’s as easy as that!

Memorial Day

In honor of those who’ve given their lives for what our country stands for, we hope yours is full of life, and love, and legacy!
